Meet the Designer Behind Williamsburg Kitchen and Bath

Tucked into a tidy older shopping strip in the Five Forks area, right next door to Amory Music and around the corner from Five Forks Cafe, there is a design shop run by someone who actually sketches kitchens for a living. Her name is Tammy Copland. She trained in design at VCU, spent years planning commercial interiors in Richmond, and eventually realized the thing she loved most was helping a real person turn a tired room into something they were proud of.

She opened Williamsburg Kitchen and Bath to do exactly that.

Why a Kitchen Remodel Feels So Overwhelming

If you have ever started pricing a kitchen, you know the feeling. One store for cabinets. Another for the countertop. Floor and Decor for the tile and the backsplash. Somewhere else entirely for the flooring and the hardware.

Door style, finish, quartz or granite, the pulls, the knobs, gold or black or nickel. The choices pile up and the little costs multiply over details you did not even know existed. It is the biggest purchase most people make other than a car or a home, and you are expected to figure it out on your own.

You Are Not Supposed to Be the Designer

If you’re not trained in design, each piece might look fine on its own, then you get everything home and none of it goes together.

That is how people end up with a brand new kitchen that somehow feels busy and mismatched. Tammy has watched it happen for years, and it is the exact problem she built her shop to prevent.

Tammy did not arrive here by accident. After the recession dried up her interior work, a couple of family members showed her the kitchen designs they had gotten from a big box store. She started sketching better versions at the kitchen table. Her mother-in-law took one look and told her she should do this for a living.

She spent the next stretch of her career designing cabinets for production builders, sometimes fifteen to thirty homes a month. The work was cookie-cutter and the pace burned her out. She wanted something slower and more personal, where she actually knew the homeowner and cared how the finished room turned out. A supplier rep who knew her talent opened her up as a dealer, and within a year she had a full design shop in Williamsburg.

Everything Under One Roof

Walk into her showroom and the whole project lives in one place. Cabinets, countertops, tile, flooring, hardware, backsplash, and vanities, all chosen together so they belong together.

The design help is included. There is no separate designer fee layered on top, and it does not cost extra to have her pull the whole look together with you.

“They can come to somebody like me that can hold their hand through the entire process and all the selections for everything.”

— Tammy Copland

A Designer Who Questions the Plan

When an architect or builder hands over a plan, the kitchen on it is often just a placeholder. It shows where the cabinets go, not how the room should actually feel when you walk in.

Tammy looks at the balance. Whether the range should sit centered on the wall or the island. Whether the hood is placed and sized right. Whether the stacked cabinets line up across the room the way the eye expects. Small adjustments most people never notice, until they are living in a kitchen where everything finally lines up.

The Same Brands, for 15 to 40 Percent Less

A boutique design shop sounds expensive, so most shoppers assume they cannot afford it and never walk in.

Tammy is a direct Schrock cabinet dealer and an MSI Surfaces dealer, which means she carries the same brands sitting on the floor at Lowe’s and Home Depot. She sells them for less, and she will walk you through the difference between an all-ply cabinet and the particle board version the big box hands you without a word.

“We beat the pants off of big box stores at 15 to 40 percent off every day.”

— Tammy Copland

No Pressure, No Guesswork

There are no salespeople pestering you here, and no two-hour pitch designed to get you to sign tonight. You get one guide who takes the overwhelming part off your plate and makes the process easy.

When the scope calls for installation, she connects you with a vetted local contractor matched to the size of your job. She handles the materials and the design. The right contractor handles the build. And for a smaller update, her crew can even convert a tub to a shower in a single day, at a better price than the national names.

Serving Williamsburg and the Surrounding Counties

From her Five Forks showroom, Tammy works with homeowners across Williamsburg, Yorktown, Lightfoot, Norge, Toano, and out into James City, York, New Kent, and Charles City counties. She has designed everything from an eighteen-thousand-dollar townhouse kitchen to a six-figure custom project, and she treats both with the same care.

If a kitchen or bath has been sitting on your someday list, this is what the start of it looks like. One person who helps you find your vision, one place to make every choice, and a finished room you are proud to show off. No pressure to decide today. Just an easier way to get there.
